Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training
2012 PRENATAL YOGA TEACHER TRAINING:  Be the change you wish to see in the world.

As individuals and a society, if we are to move from merely coping, to thriving and experiencing life fully, freely, creatively and joyfully, we must begin by examining how we regard people during the "primary period" - the period from conception through the first year of life. How we nurture bodies and souls at the very beginnings of their journey into life on earth has a profound effect on the patterns they will play out their entire lives and whether those patterns will orient them toward defense and resistance, or toward a full opening to loving potential.
This is the change I wish to see in the world, and the foundation of my work with pregnant women, using yoga as the tool for optimizing the mother's ability to nurture and nourish herself, and thereby her developing child. This work has ripple effects well beyond the period of gestation and truly has the ability to change the world!

Whether you are interested in becoming a prenatal yoga teacher or would like to expand your knowledge base to mindfully and skillfully guide pregnant students in public classes, this training will give you a strong foundation and understanding of the  processes of pregnancy, and how to support students physically, emotionally, energetically and spiritually throughout this transformative time. Also welcome are midwives, doulas, prenatal massage therapists and birth workers of any variety who are looking to expand their knowledge and skills in support of their clients holistic well being.

The training will take place over four weekends throughout 2011. The first two weekends will focus on the anatomy and physiology of pregnancy and the practicalities of physical yoga practice. The last two weekends will delve into the energetics and philosophy of the yogic techniques as they relate to the childbearing year, pregnancy as spiritual practice and how to hold sacred space for the process and bring the content to life in the community.

We'll explore:
  • Yoga postures to emphasize, modify and avoid
  • Physical and psychological processes of pregnancy and childbirth
  • Key anatomy of pregnancy and the pregnant body in movement
  • Physiology of normal pregnancy and common variations and challenges
  • Prana in Pregnancy: practices to explore and cultivate life force for mother and baby (pranayama, chakras, meditation, nadis & vayus, mantra and mudra)
  • Considerations for touch and adjustments
  • Safety in the practice
  • Qualities of a prenatal yoga teacher and qualities to cultivate in students
You'll be able to:
  • Teach a 60-90 minute all levels prenatal yoga class
  • Craft group or private lessons for specific trimesters of pregnancy
  • Learn to mindfully and skillfully incorporate pregnant students into public classes
  • Use props to support both active and restorative postures
  • Incorporate both yang (vinyasa) and yin (restorative) practices, as well as dynamic, kundalini-style postures
  • Support health and vitality of mother and baby
  • Work with pregnant women one-on-one to support common discomforts of pregnancy
  • Craft a variety of relaxation and centering practices
"Heather is a loving, generous, gentle, and appropriately strong-willed person, all qualities that enable her to be perfect at supporting women in creating empowering and beautiful journeys toward motherhood. Heather has a solid and deep grounding in all aspects of yoga - breathing, poses, mantras, mudras, historical texts, meditation and more - and their application to pregnant women.
