The yogaBIRTH workshop aims to lead couples on a journey of discovery as to why and how birth works best when allowed to unfold on its own time, in its own way, with ample support but with limited interference.  Explore how you can empower yourself to take responsibility for the well being of your baby and the sacredness of your birth.  Through yoga practice, you make discoveries that enable you to become more vibrant, fearless and radiant in all aspects of your life. Yoga is ideal preparation for this peak life experience, because each practice replicates this looking inward to find wisdom, strength, presence and joy in the sensations of the body and the energy of the breath.

 

Through this six-week workshop, expectant parents will gain:

 

  1. EXPERIENCE - Gain direct experience through yogic practices (postures, breathing, meditation, mantra, relaxation, etc.) of the inherent wisdom, strength and power of your body-mind to give birth in comfort, freedom and joy. When you regularly connect with this part of yourself through yoga, you have great faith and trust in your body, your baby, your partner and the normal physiological process of birth.
  2. KNOWLEDGE - Become an informed consumer of maternity services and learn how to navigate a system that is not set up to support normal, physiological birth.  Learn how labor works and how to work with the energy and intensity of labor using a variety of techniques that provide comfort and empowerment during this peak life experience. 
  3. PERSPECTIVE - Experience a perspective of birth as normal, enjoyable and most efficient and effective when allowed to unfold in its own way and own time with adequate support, but without interference. It is a vantage point that you won’t get in hospital based birthing classes, which usually focus on their particular brand of the active management of birth, usually involving a cascade of interventions that complicate the process and distress your baby.
  4. PRACTICE – Explore movement, sound, the mind/body connection, subtle energy, breath, touch and intimate collaboration with your partner to discover which tools resonate with you and to develop a reservoir of skills and comfort strategies that, with practice, will arise exactly when you need them during birth, as a parent and in life.
  5. UNDERSTANDING - Understand birth as a spiritual, as well as a physical, rite of passage.  When you take the view of birth as a peak energetic/spiritual/transformative experience, you eliminate the fear and welcome the experience, which eliminates tension and transforms pain into power.  Use your body as a vehicle to explore the vastness of you spirit and discover your limitless potential to give birth effectively, easily, in ecstacy - just as nature intended.
